Maharashtrian Indie Artist Singer-Songwriter Manisha Shahane Featuring CD “When Parallel Lines Meet"

Manisha Shahane Manisha Shahane

Maharashtrian Indie Artist Singer-Songwriter Manisha Shahane Featuring CD “When Parallel Lines Meet".  Manisha’s family descendents originate from a state called “Maharashtra” West India meaning “Great Nation”.  Clearly, the roots of these origins and international exposure are apart of the beautiful influences that is infused within Manisha’s music.  Her music is not only beautiful, it’s tranquil, peaceful soothing, and incorporates a powerful message of healing, love, and harmony within the world we live…

As a songstress Manisha Shahane unwittingly launched her career as a performing songwriter when she hung posters around Central Square and invited friends to hear some of her original songs at the Cezanne Café & Bakery in Cambridge, MA on November 21, 1999. The coffee shop ran out of bread for sandwiches during what turned out to be a standing-room-only show. Afterwards, she sat on the piano bench and sheepishly passed around a mailing list “just in case I perform my songs again sometime.”

Her dedication and consistency, Manisha has since made over 175 appearances as a performing songwriter and countless more as a guest or band member of other groups. Following the 2004 release of her debut album, "Peace in Progress," her shows garnered audiences in numerous cities in the US, as well as in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and London. Combining a coming-of-age in southern Virginia with her Maharashtrian heritage, Manisha’s performances are a musical collage of folk, jazz, and Indian traditions, featuring her original songs & compositions, as well as covers and special arrangements. She’s especially drawn to the sound of the tabla, an Indian percussion instrument, which her father plays.

Manisha's has an extensive performance following at venues such as Grammy Museum twice in 2009. Manisha has also performed on college campuses, such as that of Wellesley College, Brandeis University, and Brown University.

Examples of notable invitations have included:

Women in Jazz Festival, UMass Amherst/Vermont Jazz Center (2005)

Local Colors International Festival, Roanoke, VA (2006)

Brihan Maharashtra Mandal Convention, Seattle, WA (2007)

UCLA Semel Institute Concert Series, Los Angeles, CA (2007)

With experience in genres ranging from Jazz to Classical to Rock to Indian music to Reggae to Afro-Cuban Armenian Salsa – and her original music - she has worked with musicians such as pianist Vince Evans (Luther Vandross, Dianne Reeves), percussionist Jerry Leake (Ali Akbar Khan, Natraj), bassist Eli Magen (Israeli Philharmonic), drummer Alison Miller (Sheila Jordan, Norah Jones), plus guitarists Kevin Barry (Mary Chapin Carpenter, Paula Cole) & Prasanna (Joe Lovano, Hari Prasad Chaurasia), and multi-instrumentalist Akili Jamal Haynes (Lenny Kravitz, Roberta Flack). One of her most memorable experiences was singing at Carnegie Hall as a member of Boston’s Chorus pro Musica.

Trudell
Trudell

Chi-Town Indie Artist “Trudell a.k.a Tru” Hip-Hop and Urban Soul Featuring Mix Tape “Dream Turned Reality”.    Trudell is an example of someone who was determined, and persevered through his circumstances to success.   His observations and lessons learned from experiences taught him that there’s a better way in life, there’s more to life.  Trudell has applied these lessons not only for his own journey but to reach back and out to others to show them a new path in life.  He’s an inspiration, mentor, teacher and so much more… Living the word’s each one, teach one…

The Chicago native tells the good and bad in his rhymes, not only about his surroundings but also about himself. Having grown up in a single parent household like many kids Trudell (or Tru for short) has seen a lot and that translates to his music. Raised by his dad after his parents divorced, Tru could have followed the path of his older brothers who were both heavily involved in gangs are currently incarcerated (one for murder and the other for an armed robbery). But instead he chose to put his passion into writing, education and his music.

“My dad has been the most influential person in my life. Me and my brothers have a different dad. I bet if my dad was their biological dad they wouldn't be in the situations they’re in now,” says Trudell. “I've had my stints with the streets as far as dope goes but my dad always steered me back straight.”

New Orleans Jazz Guitarist Indie Artist Davy Mooney Featuring CD “Ghost of Music, Past”

Davy Mooney Davy Mooney

New Orleans Jazz Guitarist Indie Artist Davy Mooney Featuring CD “Ghost of Music, Past”.   Davy is an internationally known jazz guitarist, singer- songwriter.  His music is smooth, relaxing, and tranquil infusing jazz with influences of Brazilian and New Orleans sounds.   Davy’s lyrical expressions are reflective of moments in time through his journey in life.  This project represents a burning passion of melodies and songs that he has within and the release has been transforming and transcending in his life…

Davy Mooney and the Ghosts is the new singer-songwriter project from world-renowned jazz guitarist Davy Mooney. Mooney has been leading a double life for his entire musical career: he is well known on the international jazz scene as a melodic and harmonically sophisticated guitarist, but for the past 15 years he has been performing solo in coffee houses and small bars singing his bittersweet, nostalgic songs to old folkies and young indie-rockers.

Although some of the songs go back 10 years or more, Mooney hadn't gotten around to recording them until this past year. The CD is "Ghosts of Music, Past", and the band Mooney has put together to perform the music is called, fittingly, the Ghosts. Why the supernatural theme? Because Mooney has been haunted by these songs for years; they come from the past and are rife with regrets and shadowy memories. The record is stylistically diverse, but many of the songs deal with relationships, doubts, and complex, mixed emotions. The Ghosts are a band of virtuoso musicians that bring depth and musicality to Mooney's tunes. Listen and be transported!

So, sit back relax have a cup of coffee, tea, a glass of wine enjoy some good conversation & music with “Davy Mooney”.

One of the wonderful examples of embracing life is Leslie pursued her education and graduated from Syracuse University, nurtured & developed her musical career.  Continued to evolve by traveling to places like French Polynesia, Tonga, and Fiji and enjoys sailing.

Not many artists today can dazzle 38,000 people at Citi Field and then, moments later, take the stage at an intimate club like Googie’s Lounge and captivate the audience with merely a whisper into the microphone.

Over the past year, Leslie has built an impressive following of fans and played packed shows at classic NYC venues such as Crash Mansion, Arlene's Grocery, Fontana's, and Googie’s Lounge. This summer she embarked on her first mini-tour, during which, the highlight was being asked to sing the National Anthem for the Atlanta Braves on two separate occasions. Once in Atlanta at Turner Field, then, again, in New York at Citi Field. Since that time, Leslie has been sought after by nearly every major New York sports team to perform the Anthem, including a performance at the famed Madison Square Garden for the NY Rangers. Italian Jazz Indie Artist Sylvia Bennett Featuring CD “Smile”

Sylvia Bennett
Sylvia Bennett

Italian Jazz Indie Artist Sylvia Bennett featuring CD “Smile” is a reflection of passion for legendary American standards, and the desire to keep them alive with a contemporary flare.  Sylvia has been compared to Barbra Streisand, Rosemary Clooney, Astrid Gilberto, Diana Krall, Ella Fitzgerald.  What a compliment that happens to be true.  Sylvia’s love and vocals for jazz, easy listening, and contemporary set a tone and scene which captures moments in
time.

Grammy nominated 1987 Sylvia Bennett, the timeless smooth jazz and pop vocalist sings of love with a warmth, clarity and spirit that is enveloping and tender, showcasing the depth of her skill, talent and experience. She's sung with Lionel Hampton and she's sung for presidents - all with a singular style and intimacy that is hers and hers alone.

Smile is a collection of wonderful standards, recognizable, but all with an international flair to appeal to a broader audience. The flavors are bossa novas, boleros and a new hybrid merengue. Inspiration came from a history of enjoying the styles of Sergio Mendez and Wes Montgomery. The music is grooving with luscious percussion and masterful guitar. The richness of the beautiful strings touches the heart. The tracks on the CD include classics like Smile, Witchcraft, Shadow of Your Smile, and Make Someone Happy. It also includes two bonus tracks: a Spanish version of Smile and a smooth pop version of Look of Love.

The Italian born and American raised Bennett is a singer’s singer, having sung on TV, in community theater, club dates, conventions and even the inaugurations of presidents Ronald Reagan and George Bush. Walking in the footsteps of her idols such as Barbra Streisand, Ella Fitzgerald, Barry Manilow and Bette Midler, Sylvia has opened for artists as diverse as Bob Hope, Phyllis Diller, Jackie Mason, Dizzy Gillespie, Barry Gibb and David Brenner.

Leslie Cours Mather

Born in Singapore West Coast Indie Artist Leslie Cours Mather Featuring CD “For My Children”. Leslie’s influence and concept for this project is touching, inspiring, spiritual, healing, and motivational. Her voice and the music reaches out to your spirit the determination, faith, and dedication for the purpose of “For My Children is endearing, you’ll want to place this CD on your gift list this holiday season, Leslie will be donating 50% of the proceeds for “Therapeutic Advances in Childhood Leukemia and Lymphoma". Tune into this show to refresh your faith and hope that God is still in the healing business.

It can be hard to remain hopeful when times are dark. But out of even the darkest, most testing times can come great art- profoundly moving works that give us faith and let us know we aren’t alone in our hardships.

Singer-songwriter Leslie Cours Mather has certainly endured some dark times recently. At the age of four her daughter Stefani was diagnosed with leukemia. Thankfully, Stefani, now eight, has been treated and is doing just fine. But it was a tough patch there for a bit. Out of it all, however, came an added bonus. As she and her family passed through this emotionally wrenching period, Leslie found solace and release in writing songs. Several of these songs are found on For My Children, her astonishing new album.

“Sometimes life hands us things we don’t choose, but as we walk things out we grow,” expresses Leslie. For My Children is the beautifully stirring sound of an artist growing. A sound sure to resonate, not only with mothers and those whose lives have been touched by cancer, but with compassionate listeners everywhere.

In 2000 Leslie performed her original ballad “Why Choose Me” as a duet with Tony Award winner Scott Waara, who said, “It lifts the spirit, which music does at its very best.” Her single “The Pledge” won an Honor Award 2004 in the Great American Song Contest and was featured on the Armed Forces Radio Network and other stations worldwide. Paul Wilson from TyneFM.com regards it as “Most impressive” and Brooksy from UnsignedBandWeb.com said, “I’m hooked on ‘The Pledge.’” In 2003 she released an acclaimed instrumental CD, Spontaneous on Piano.

Recently, Leslie joined with a team of doctors from Children’s Hospital Los Angeles where Stefani was treated, to establish the Parents’ Advisory Council of the international consortium TACL (Therapeutic Advances in Childhood Leukemia and Lymphoma). Together, they are working diligently to develop new treatments, support families and raise money to eradicate these diseases. Fifty percent of the purchase price of each For My Children CD will go to TACL.

So, sit back relax have a cup of coffee, tea, or a glass of wine enjoy some good conversation and music with “Leslie Cours Mather”.

Reykjavík, Iceland Indie Artist For a Minor Reflection Featuring CD Holdum

For a Minor Reflection For a Minor Reflection

Reykjavík, Iceland Indie Artist For a Minor Reflection Featuring a.k.a. “FaMR” CD Holdum í átt að óreiðu’ (Heading towards chaos).   This quartet instrumental approach to music seems to incorporate a rock fusion with ethereal flavor.  It’s relaxing, reflective, and has somewhat of a meditative appeal.  They have been compared to and toured through Europe and Canada with popular Iceland bands such as Sigur Rós, Mogwai.

Back in 2007, the quartet struck up a fan base with their self-produced debut album Reistu þig við, sólin er komin á loft... (Rise, the Sun’s Up...), a mesmerizing, hour-long tapestry featuring six songs and recorded over a weekend in their friend’s studio. This record, as well as their energetic live shows, earned them a slew of accolades, including favorable comparisons to Explosions in the Sky, Caspain and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Their fellow Icelanders Sigur Rós even described them as “a band with the potential to out Mogwai”.

Following a scintillating live performance at 2007’s Iceland Airwaves, FaMR were invited to undertake a two-week 2008 tour in the USA and Canada. Later in the same year the band were invited to do 15 dates with Sigur Rós on a European tour and used the opportunity to release their album on iTunes, as well as selling it on the tour. The band sold out on the 2000 albums they manufactured bringing the total sales figures of this modest demo recorded in a home studio to 5000 copies.

New York Indie Artist, Poet and Activist Lauren O’Brien Featuring CD “Inconsequential Dream”

Lauren O' Brien Lauren O

New York Indie Artist, Poet and Activist Lauren O’Brien Featuring CD “Inconsequential Dream”.   Lauren commands thought provoking poetry & lyrics to voice the political activist from within.  This passion is blended with her performance and the awesome musicians that synergize arrangement to life.  Thereby, captivating you to listen intently to become engaged and inspired.  “I love rock ’n’ roll, the passion and rebelliousness of it,” says Lauren. “But I want to be part of it in my own way—I want to take poetry and rock it out.”

Which is exactly what Lauren does—and then some—on Inconsequential Dream, her astonishing debut album. Take “color code,” a menacing, tension-rich rumination on love’s blurred lines of communication (“The colors in our code system / seem to keep switching on me”). Or the hard-hitting title track, which was inspired by the numerous mystic predictions about the year 2012 and the letting go of old ideas in order to live more fully in the new age (“Try to survive / it’s time / the quickening / the great purifying”). And then there’s “To Let Someone,” an acoustic guitar-laced allegory likening newfound spiritual energy to the acceptance of a former lover’s new mate (“To let someone / who is loved / by the one who used to love you / into your home / Well that is the thing/ that takes / the most courage”).

Lauren’s own ride began in her suburban hometown of East Meadow, Long Island, where she found herself drawn to the arts and political activism. “I organized a protest against fur at the mall when I was in fifth grade,” says with a laugh. There was music and culture in the house; her father played guitar and her mother, a teacher, played piano and exposed her to literature and theater. Inspired by the beat writers, Lauren took to poetry early on.
Following music lessons she went on to study acting, met groundbreaking director Polina Klimovitskaya, and spent three years with the professor’s avant-garde troupe, Terra Incognita Theater. Lauren credits Klimovitskaya’s “psycho-physical” method as a strong influence on her own approach to performing, and began to utilize it when she started participating in poetry readings.
