Status of the 99ers Bill' Americans Want to Work Act - S.3706' and More...State of Emergency, Time is of the Essence, ASAP RESPONSE REQUIRED NOW. As previously noted Sen. Schumer created this bill, Sen. Stabenow and other democrats co-sponsored and introduced it last week. Next steps will not begin until after the Summer legislative recess September 2010. That is the bill will go to the Congressional Budget Office a.k.a. CBO then to the Taxation Committee.

This process is simultaneously, then to the floor for debate, voting, passage, and the Presidents signature. One may ask what's in the bill basically it adds a Tier 5 thereby extending benefits for 20 weeks. It also includes business incentives i.e. tax breaks, to encourage businesses to hire and especially 99ers long-term unemployed for a period of 52 weeks. 99ers the long-term unemployed have exhausted 99 weeks of eligibility to receive benefits.

The reason the movement of the 99ers is demanding assistance is truly based on the fact the economy still hasn't turned around to the degree that has encourage employer to hire. The other issues arises is many who are 40+ are being told by employers they're to old [age discrimination].

Currently, there are 4 Emergency Tiers: Tier 1 = 20 weeks, Tier 2 = 14 weeks, Tier 3 = 13 week, and Tier 4 = 6 weeks. Extended Benefit = 13 weeks + 7 weeks = 20 additional weeks. Regular unemployment outside of the emergency Tiers = 26 weeks.
